China Duty Free Group’s Phnom Penh Duty Free Shop to open on 1 August

CAMBODIA. China Duty Free Group’s (CDFG) duty free mall in Phnom Penh will begin operations on 1 August, the company has confirmed.

Phnom Penh Duty Free Shop at NagaCity Walk will be CDFG’s third off-airport store in Cambodia and is located underground at the Naga World Casino complex in a 3,900sq m space.

It follows the recent opening of a 450sq m store in Sihanoukville, and CDFG’s first store in Siem Reap in 2014. “After its opening, we will complete our comprehensive strategic plan for the duty free industry in Cambodia’s three major cities,” a company spokesperson told The Moodie Davitt Report.

Preparations are underway for the August opening with the space currently being fitted out, CDFG said.

How The Phnom Penh Post reported the story

The opening forms part of the company’s plan to boost tourism from China to Cambodia. The move is in line with the Cambodian government’s strategy to increase the number of Chinese tourists visiting the nation to one million per year.

The underground mall is being developed by Hong Kong’s NagaCorp, the operator of NagaWorld, and stretches from the current Naga hotel and casino to Naga2 – another mixed entertainment complex which is under construction and due for completion in 2017.

NagaCity Walk will feature about 400 high-end brands, including Dior, Swarovski and Gucci. Products will be sold at prices 25-30% cheaper than the standard retail price.

“Phnom Penh Duty Free Shop will target a diverse customer base – mainly international tourists from Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand as well as China,” CDFG previously said.
