The store (featured in images on this page) is run by the airport’s in-house retail division. It houses 11 new brands, mainly in cosmetics, taking the store’s overall offer to 46 brands.

New entries include Japanese skincare brands Ipsa, Pola, Three and Suqqu, alongside international names MAC, Tom Ford Beauty, La Prairie, Jo Malone and Giorgio Armani Beauty. In fashion, travel brand Tabitus and British heritage line Daks make their debuts at the location.

Japanese brands feature prominently and lead surging sales in cosmetics at the airport.

Already, said the airport company, cosmetics sales have soared by 45% in the weeks since opening.

This is the first major renovation and upgrade of the duty free zone since the airport opened in 2005. Other recent openings include a standalone Chanel Beauty & Fragrance boutique in February.

The airport-owned retailer has devoted generous space to international beauty brands, notably those that appeal to Chinese and other Asian visitors.

In other news, Chubu Centrair will open its new low-cost (LCC) terminal on 20 September. This new Terminal 2 will cater for the strong growth in regional traffic demand, notably from Greater China and South Korea. As we reported last year, the 40,000sq m two-storey building will have initial capacity for 4.5 million passengers.

The new facility will house 500sq m of duty free space initially, but this will increase to around 1,150sq m in later phases of development. The airport company said that in year one, it expects confectionery to account for 45% of the T2 business, liquor & tobacco around 40% and beauty 15%.

As reported, Chubu Centrair was named World’s Best Regional Airport 2019 in the Skytrax World Airport Awards, receiving the accolade for the fifth year in a row.
