CHINA. Travel retailer CNSC will next year open a near 1,800sq m, post-arrivals duty free store in Beijing FUN (北京坊) – an extraordinary two-phased commercial and cultural development just 100 metres away from Tiananmen Square and adjacent to the National Palace Museum, National Grand Theatre, National Museum and other renowned cultural institutions.
The Moodie Davitt Report will be producing exclusive and extensive coverage in the lead-up to an opening that promises to bring a new dimension to CNSC – and to Chinese travel retail.
According to Bespoke Travel Company, Beijing Fun is “a sprawling collection of genuinely old buildings, remodelled early 20th century shops and gorgeous modern architecture that sit side by side as tastefully as if they’d been there all along”.
The area’s customer base is dominated by young local customers, many of whom regularly travel abroad. Females account for 64% of the catchment, with young fashion-orientated customers aged 18 to 29 representing a very high 33%. CNSC said that customers with high purchasing power between the ages of 25 and 39 account for 67% of total traffic.
The new CNSC store, which will replace the organisation’s existing post-arrivals store in the capital, will offer a carefully curated range of beauty, fashion, accessories, well-being, jewellery, sunglasses, health food, destination merchandise and other items.
“CNSC will draw on its ultimate resources to build the future CNSC Beijing store into a flagship model store within China’s duty free industry,” the company said.
