CNSC wins Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport duty-free arrivals and departures contracts

The two nine-year contracts build on CNSC’s existing downtown presence in Chongqing, marking the beginning of a new era of ‘one city, three shops’ in the city, the company said. The agreements present a milestone in CNSC’s nationwide network expansion, CNSC added.

CNSCS will manage a 2,522sq m retail footprint – 572sq m in arrivals and 1,950sq m in departures.

The agreement introduces a comprehensive operational model where a single retailer manages both airport and downtown duty-free shops in the city. This closed-loop system is set to foster the development of Chongqing’s duty-free industry, laying a solid foundation for its high-quality growth, CNSC added.

The retailer said it is “dedicated to creating an international and unique duty-free shopping experience”.

CNSC was recognised by Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport for the performance of its arrivals duty-free shop as well as the integrated nature of its ‘port + downtown’ layout.

The stores will feature a diverse array of duty-free goods such as cosmetics, tobacco, alcohol, luggage, accessories, food and health products

CNSC said it plans to further explore the integrated linkage of ‘downtown + port + offshore + online’ retail and continue promoting differentiated and specialised operations in the ‘duty free + health’ sector.

A key gateway in Southwest China, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport served over 44.79 million passengers pre-pandemic, including 3.13 million international travellers. As global tourism experiences a robust recovery, the airport is enjoying a resurgence in international passenger traffic.

CNSC said it will collaborate closely with Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport to enhance its international commercial operations by introducing a range of innovations. Accelerating digital transformation and high-quality development will be a prime focus.

Together, the airport and retailer aim to establish Chongqing as a tourist destination with global influence, accelerating its development into an international consumption hub, according to CNSC. ✈️

Arrivals duty-free shopping is gaining in popularity across China, a dynamic reflected in the expansive 572sq m store
