CNSC wins Fuzhou Changle International Airport duty-free departures contract

CHINA. Sinopharm Group’s travel retail arm China National Service Corporation (CNSC) has secured the operating rights for departures duty-free stores at Fuzhou Changle International Airport.

The retailer received the bid-winning notice today (30 July) for the 476.1sq m project.

Fuzhou Changle International Airport is an important aviation hub in South China. It served approximately 2.12 million international passengers in 2019, ranking 17th nationwide.

As the post-pandemic outbound tourism recovery accelerates, rising international passenger traffic at Fuzhou Airport has boosted its place to 13th.

The winning project, in cooperation with Xiamen Iport Group, lays a solid foundation for CNSC’s expansion along the Belt and Road and in South China’s duty-free market – following the opening of the departures duty-free shop at Quanzhou Jinjiang International Airport.

Looking ahead, CNSC will explore cross-regional and cross-channel linkages between the duty-free shops at Quanzhou Airport and Fuzhou Airport. According to the retailer, the regional synergy is aimed at continually enhancing the shopping experience in the channel.

Fuzhou Airport plays a critical role in Fuzhou’s rapid transformation into a modern international city. It serves as a window for China’s reform and opening-up, as well as a key aerial bridge in the Maritime Silk Road strategy.

As the Belt and Road Initiative’s implementation deepens, Fuzhou Airport has been designated as the gateway hub airport for the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road by the Civil Aviation Administration of China. The airport will enter an era of “dual runways, dual terminals” with the second phase’s development.

The project will also feature an array of liquor offerings in its stores

Against this backdrop, CNSC expressed its goals to enhance passengers’ shopping experiences and upgrade the duty-free commercial sector at Fuzhou Airport together with Xiamen Iport Group.

CNSC will continue to uphold a “spirit of professionalism, openness and cooperation”. The company further elaborated on its endeavours to work with Fuzhou Airport in building a reputable, internationally influential airport commercial brand.

This effort supports Fuzhou’s goals of becoming an international consumption centre and revitalising the duty-free market along the Belt and Road. ✈️
