Comptoir Libanais to open first airport restaurant at London Gatwick

Comptoir Libanais will offer a menu of healthy dishes, as well as a range of vegetarian and Halal choices plus a children’s menu

UK. London Gatwick Airport is set to welcome Lebanese restaurant Comptoir Libanais, which will open its first airport outlet in the North Terminal in late autumn. It will be located airside and run by TRG Concessions.

The decision to work with Comptoir Libanais is based on passenger research which revealed a demand from Gatwick travellers for a greater variety of cuisines from higher quality restaurants, the airport said.

Comptoir Libanais offers a healthy, varied menu of dishes ranging from Lebanese breakfasts to coffees and pastries, quick snacks and casual dinners. There is also a diverse range of vegetarian and Halal choices as well as a children’s menu.

A takeaway service with easy-to-carry aircraft packaging is available for time-pressed travellers.

The 1,800sq ft restaurant will feature Middle Eastern patterned tiles and a modern Lebanese ambience. Bringing a touch of the souk to the airport, passengers will be able to purchase a range of products from lanterns and teapots to embroidered handbags and cooking ingredients.

The arrival of Comptoir Libanais will complement several new restaurants which have opened in Gatwick’s North Terminal. These include Jamie Oliver’s first airport eateries – Jamie’s Italian, Jamie’s Bakery and Union Jack’s Bar – as well as the UK’s largest airport YO! Sushi and new offerings from Pret A Manger and Starbucks.

New and established retailers have seen strong results from their Gatwick-based outlets, according to Gatwick, with the airport’s Pret A Manager, Frankie and Benny’s and Costa stores ranking as the busiest in the UK.

London Gatwick Business Development Manager for Catering Charlotte Christiansen said: “Gatwick’s food and beverage strategy has focused on delivering even greater choice for passengers as part of the wider £1 billion transformation of the airport, which has seen the redevelopment of both of our departure lounges and a vast array of new shops and restaurants open.

“Comptoir Libanais will offer an exciting new dining experience thanks to its unique ambience and exceptional menu which caters for a wide variety of tastes. It also fits perfectly into the needs of the modern air passenger – serving up healthy, flavoursome food in a time frame to suit each individual’s needs.”

TRG Concessions Managing Director Nick Ayerst said: “TRG Concessions is very excited about bringing Comptoir Libanais and a taste of the Middle East to Gatwick Airport. It will add diversity to the food offering within the terminal, as well as fuss-free, affordable dining. The light and healthy options are in line with the more conscious diners’ diets whilst the vast selection of dips and mezzes brings home the concept that Lebanese food is all about being a fantastic, social affair.”

Comptois Libanais Founder and Creative Director Tony Kitous said: “We are thrilled to be opening at Gatwick Airport, as it provides us with a unique opportunity to welcome a diverse clientele of travellers to enjoy Comptoir Libanais’s cuisine.”

Comptois Libanais Group Managing Director Chaker Hanna said: “We are delighted to announce this new partnership with TRG and Gatwick. We are very much looking forward to working closely with both parties and making our first airport restaurant a great success.”
