BELGIUM. Criollo is poised to launch the world’s first super-premium cream liqueur, Coole Swan, in European duty free stores.
Coole Swan was unveiled at an official launch event in the Millennium Wing of the National Gallery of Ireland, in March 2007. Guests mingled among a backdrop of ice sculptures and DJ Mo Kelly’s funky beats while mixologist Paul Lambert presented his Coole Swan cocktail creation.
To mark the occasion, a series of short story films, Coole Stories, produced and directed for Coole Swan by the critically acclaimed Mike Figgis, were previewed. The Coole Stories preview was simultaneously launched on the Coole Swan MySpace page (www.myspace.com/coole_swan)
Inspired by Ireland’s great poet, William Butler Yeats, the famous Swans of Coole Park are reflected on the premium bottle. Packaged in a frosted bottle accented with blue labelling, Coole Swan uses fresh double cream from Ireland’s dairylands, blended with Single malt Irish whiskey and tempered with charcoal-filtered spirit.
The heart comprises bittersweet notes of velvety-smooth white and dark chocolate, delicate infusions of Madagascan vanilla and rich cocoa from Cote d’Ivoire. The drink is served ice-cold in a frozen glass.
Coole Swan is the creation of David Phelan, Adrian Walker and David Gluckman, who have extensive experience in both the Irish and international drinks industries.
Coole Swan Managing Director Phelan said: “We recognised that there was a genuine gap in the super-premium category for a superior cream liqueur, and the idea for Coole Swan was born. David, Adrian and I were able to combine our expertise to produce a new, exciting and fresh brand that delivers in every way – the best ingredients, premium striking packaging, and most importantly, a delicious taste.”
Coole Swan launch plan
Coole Swan initially launched in its home market of Ireland, followed by the US. Focusing initially on New York, the response has been “very positive” with a target list of approximately 800 outlets across Manhattan over the coming months, the company said.
A launch at UK department store Selfridges in October 2007 will see the brand land exclusively in the London, Manchester and Birmingham stores.
In travel retail, The Nuance Group Europe will launch Coole Swan exclusively on the European continent in November and December 2007. The brand will also be introduced in the duty free and travel retail markets of Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg and France.
Criollo Supreme Brands affiliation
Coole Swan’s decision to join the Criollo Supreme Brands portfolio follows a long-standing working relationship between David Phelan and Criollo Managing Director Jo Raskin.
Coole Swan, a new and innovative product within a category of rich heritage, is said to fit perfectly within the company’s portfolio of leading brands.
