Heather Cho: Driving sales onboard the world’s leading inflight retailer |
SOUTH KOREA. Cosmetics was the dominant category onboard Korean Air last year as the world’s leading inflight duty free retailer generated total sales of US$201.7 million.
The category grew by +14% year-on-year, accounting for a 38% market share.
Liquor, driven by super-premium spirits, came in second with a 28% share and a value increase of +25%.
Korean Air is currently putting the finishing touches to a pioneering onboard duty free store in preparation for the airline’s launch of the A380 aircraft later this year.
Senior Vice President Catering & Inflight Sales Business Division Heather Cho told The Moodie Report: “We are going to do our first A380 flight in early June, though the exact date is not fixed.
“We will have a duty free shop and a full bar. For each station we are planning to do training for designated crew [for the duty free store and bar].”
The onboard shop will promote new, existing and exclusive products while also offering the entire inflight range; it will be complemented by the continuation of the regular cart service. “We will display the best-selling items across all categories such as liquor, cosmetics, accessories and fragrances,” Ms Cho said.
Korean Air is taking a stand at May’s TFWA Asia Pacific exhibition in Singapore to showcase the new facilities to suppliers.
