Sunil Tuli, Group CEO of King Power Group (Hong Kong) and President of the Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA), is close to reaching the targeted US$70,000 for his upcoming hike to Mount Everest Base Camp to raise funds for international cleft charity, Smile Train.
The hike, first announced at The Moodie Davitt Report’s Smile Raising charity dinner in Singapore on 6 May, will see the industry veteran climb to 5,400m over 14 days, starting from 1 September.
As reported, Tuli doubled his original US$35,000 goal in July. In just four days following the official launch of the venture and the unveiling of a dedicated website page, US$35,814 had been raised by midnight on 5 July.
A Camp 2 target of US$45,000 was reached just one day later and US$50,000 within a week. He is now closing in on his target, with online donations totalling close to US$68,000.
“The more we raise, the more lives we change,” Tuli said. “I look forward to continued support from the industry in particular and a sincere and heartfelt thanks to those who have contributed so far. Also, thanks to The Moodie Davitt Report for helping me achieve this goal, not only by being the first (and very generous donor) but by promoting the campaign.”
A life-changing Smile Train-supported cleft surgery can cost as little as US$250-350. You can donate by clicking here. Every cent raised will go directly to the Smile Train clinic at B&B Hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal, which Tuli and his wife Shikha visited earlier this year. No costs of any kind will come off the total amount raised.
