SPAIN. Crystal Media Shops has won the tender to operate two electronics outlets in Madrid Barajas Airport Terminal 4, where the retail area is currently undergoing a major overhaul.
The two stores are scheduled to open in March 2014, with one located on the second floor before security and the other in the commercial area before the gates. They will each cover approximately 150sq m.
Crystal Media Shops, which already has ten outlets across a number of Spanish airports, said it beat off a number of foreign competitors, including Capi and Dixons, to win the six-year concession.

With airport operator AENA Aeropuertos looking for exclusivity in its retail offers, the new stores will only stock internationally-renowned brands, such as Samsung, Bose, Sony, Apple and Canon. This is part of the airport’s efforts to create a “˜Madrid Fashion Hub’ shopping centre.
During the fourth quarter of 2013, Crystal Media Shops will negotiate with major industry brands wishing to have a presence in the airport. It claims the stores will provide an opportunity for brands to showcase their products to the “upper-middle class” customers.
The opening of the new stores will be part of a drive to increase sales by €4 million a year. The company is also aiming to open stores in the Canary Islands and Latin America.
