CYPRUS. Cyprus Airports Duty Free Shops, operated by CTC-ARI Airports, attracted 152,000 entries for its latest prize draw promotion – a trip for two to the World Cup Final in South Africa. The retailer recently held the draw for one of two “˜World Cup Adventure’ competitions; the winner was local man Apollo Kapodistrias.

Courtesy of Hyundai, co-sponsor of the promotion, he will enjoy Hyundai hospitality events leading up to and during the final match. In addition the prize includes flights and accommodation. Kapodistrias received the tickets at Hyundai’s main showroom in Nicosia on 11 June, the day the World Cup began. The draw was made four days earlier at Larnaka International Airport.

The “˜World Cup Adventure’ event still has its second half to run, the prize being the new ix35l from Hyundai. The prize has been sponsored by MTN.

Customers can enter the draw by spending €50 at the airport in the shops and F&B outlets at Larnaka and Pafos airports. Customers can combine their purchases from retail and F&B to enter the draw. A novel additional feature of the campaign is that Cyprus Airports Duty Free has built its own World Cup penalty shoot-out zone where customers can try and score through three holes on a canvas covering a real goal.

Customers who spend €50 can gamble on winning more entries to the draw or an instant prize – but if they miss their penalties they will forfeit the entry ticket.

Key to the success of this promotion was the support of the promotional partners, noted the retailer. In addition to Hyundai the promotion was supported by MTN and Cyprus Airports F&B Ltd. MTN and Hyundai are official World Cup sponsors.

Cyprus Airports Duty Free Shops Head of Retail and Marketing Martin Mullen commented: “This has been a really fun promotion and customers have enjoyed it immensely. We have had a wide spectrum of customers taking part in the penalty shoot-out, from grandparents to grandkids. Commercially it has been successful, with increased spends and overall sales.”

The Moodie View puts the footballing skills of CTC-ARI Airports’ Martin Mullen to the test. Will he score?
