Dallas/Fort Worth Airport launches duty free, retail and F&B tenders

USA. Dallas/Fort Worth Airport has released RFPs for 20 packages comprising duty free, other retail and food & beverage operations across 34 locations. As reported, the concessions are located mainly in Terminal D with other units offered in terminals B and E.

The duty free package comprises six units totalling 19,353sq ft in Terminal D, offered under a ten-year contract. The airport noted that mobile duty free units and a location in the international Arrivals area could also be considered.

Five other packages offer ten-year concessions: Premium retail (one outlet each in terminals B and D); Sports bar and pub (two outlets in terminals B and E); Mediterranean grill (one outlet in Terminal D); Signature bars and bistro (three outlets in Terminal D); and upscale Italian F&B (one outlet in Terminal D).

All other packages are offered under seven-year concessions. They include (in Terminal D unless otherwise stated): Sweet or salty snacks; Deli; Wine bar; Authentic Mexican; Barbeque; Candy retail; News and coffee (Terminal B); News and convenience; News, books and athletic wear (terminals B and E); Consumer electronics (terminals D and E); Spa (terminals D and E) and European designer fashion.

Proposals for the duty free and premium retail packages are due by 2 April 2015. Proposals for all other packages are due by 2 March 2015. A pre-proposal conference will be held tomorrow (9 December), with a further meeting on the duty free concession planned for January.

Terminal D will host the majority of new concessions

Terminal D generated concession sales of US$95.6 million in fiscal year 2014, representing 30% of the airport’s total sales. Within that duty free sales reached US$16.1 million, other retail sales were US$32.4 million and food & beverage generated US$47 million.

In Terminal B sales were US$28.7 million of which retail accounted for US$8 million. For Terminal E, retail contributed US$15.6 million to the terminal’s US$41.3 million in total sales.

Growth in concession revenues outstripped growth in passenger numbers last year. The airport served over 62 million passengers, an increase of +3% year-on-year, while concession revenues generated more than US$313 million, an increase of +6%.
