Dallas/Fort Worth names DFASS alliance as recommended duty free partner

USA. A partnership led by The DFASS Group is the recommended bidder for the duty free concession at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, the airport company has confirmed to The Moodie Report. The recommendation remains subject to approval by the airport board, at a meeting due to take place on Thursday.

DFASS, through its Buckaroo Duty Free partnership, is the incumbent duty free concessionaire at the location. Its bid for the new concession comes through the TRG Duty Free Joint Venture, an alliance with CBI Retail Ventures and MTD Strategic Ventures.

At stake is a ten-year concession for six units totalling 19,353sq ft. The main opportunity lies in a new 13,292sq ft space to be built in the existing concourse close to the main international gates. Several other duty free stores within the terminal will be reconfigured and relocated to maximise space and visibility.

DFASS, whose Buckaroo Duty Free operation is the incumbent, has been recommended for a further ten-year contract at Dallas/Fort Worth

The airport has stated its ambition to more than double current annual duty free sales from US$16 million.

Other recommended partners include World Duty Free Group North America (with partners Concessions Ventures and Frank Howell), which would operate The Wall Street Journal (including The Seattle’s Best Coffee concept), CultureMap.com and Longchamp stores if approved.

Further recommended concepts include Italian Kitchen by PhaseNext Hospitality and Rio Mambo by Air Star/LTS Marquis DFW, LLC.

The Terminal D project is part of a long-term US$3 billion investment in renewing and upgrading Dallas/Fort Worth Airport.
