Davidoff Puro d’Oro Notables |
SWITZERLAND. Following the launch of the Davidoff Millennium Blend series ten years ago and exactly 20 years after introducing the first Dominican Davidoff Cigars, Davidoff is bringing another new cigar line to the duty free market this month. Puro d’Oro is the first Davidoff series with a tobacco blend and wrapper sourced exclusively from the Dominican Republic.
After many years of development work, Hendrik Kelner – a renowned tobacco expert and local Davidoff manager in the Dominican Republic – has created a wrapper for the Puro d’Oro range which is only grown in a very specific area of Yamasá in the southern part of the island. The exclusive Davidoff Yamasá wrapper thrives in tobacco fields with red earth, rich in important minerals, providing a unique aromatic experience, according to the firm.
After harvest, the Puro d’Oro wrappers undergo a drying, fermentation and storage process that is labour-intensive and lasts several years. The fermentation gives them their dark colour and the slightly rustic texture with an oily sheen. The binder leafs and fillers consist of a mixture of premium tobaccos matured for several years, all exclusively from the Dominican Republic. Combining them with the Davidoff Yamasá wrappers is said to produce a powerful, aromatic blend with notes of coffee and spices in a long finish.
Puro d’Oro will be launched in four formats: Deliciosos, Magnificos, Notables and Sublimes with tobacco blends varying from medium to full bodied. The cigars have an intensive, balanced flavour and a spicy aroma.
The head with a pigtail gives the Puro d’Oro cigars a characteristic of earlier formats such as the Davidoff No 1 and 2, launched in 1967. The name of the format is embossed on a gold band at the foot of the cigar.
As a tribute to Davidoff’s original way of packaging cigars in the 1940s, they are bundled in batches of 25, elegantly tied with a silk ribbon and packed in a paper-covered box.
The Puro d’Oro line will be available from September 2010 in specific packaging of 4’s, 10’s and 25’s.
On the occasion of this launch Davidoff also offers a Puro d’Oro Collection containing one cigar of each format.
