RUSSIA. A decision on the appointment of a duty free concessionaire for Ekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport’s new International Terminal is expected soon, following a Request for Proposals. Responses to the RFP, which invited selected retailers to submit offers, are currently being evaluated, with the nomination of a preferred concessionaire due shortly. The new terminal is scheduled to open on 1 April.
The airport serves Russia’s third largest city, after Moscow and St. Petersburg. The airport is privately owned by the Renova Group and the RFP was handled in partnership with Concession Planning International, which also managed the tender process for Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport Terminal 3.
The main duty free store in the new terminal measures around 775sq m, and is well-located just after the security point. The terminal also houses a last-minute duty free shop. The space on offer compares favourably to the small retail space in the current terminal, which is operated by Kapo Duty Free, supplied by Gebr Heinemann.
Renova Group is investing heavily at the airport. It recently opened two other new terminals at Koltsovo, and has refurbished its VIP Terminal.
Ekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport handled 2.35 million passengers in 2007, and is the gateway to the Urals region of Russia.
