US. MAC Cosmetics has named Diana Ross as its 2005 Beauty Icon. This year’s Beauty Icon Series was unveiled on 20 January and is rolling out to travel retail worldwide from this month.
“Diana is a supreme choice for our second Beauty Icon Series,” commented MAC Global President John Demsey (pictured left with Ross). “Not only is she a global style icon but also a timeless and exquisite beauty. As a multi-talented performer who expresses her individuality through fashion and make-up, she’s all that MAC admires.”
“I am greatly looking forward to the launch of the line and to my association with John Demsey and MAC Cosmetics,” added Ross.
The collection – described as “show-stopping” – focuses on the pink and bronze/coral colour families with lustre-filled finishes.
In addition to the standard colour collection for the eyes, lips and face, MAC has created two shimmering shades of a special edition Beauty Powder in a one-of-a-kind pink-chromed compact, accompanied by an array of short, pink-handled, pink-bristled brushes.
The visual for the collection was shot by photographer Michael Thompson in New York, with make-up by Val Garland and styling by Edward Eniful.
Product highlights include Pro Longwear Lipcolour in limited-edition shades Mahogany, Stop!, Miss Ross and Forever Young, and Hyper Real Foundation in Radiant Gold.
There are two eyeshadow quads, featuring shades such as Endless Love and Dance Mix, and assorted new Lipglass, kohl and blush colours.
In other news, MAC is exhorting consumers to Couple Up! with new cream blushers and Pro Longwear Lipstick.
The new Blushcreme, available in six shades, is described as a creamy-smooth, rouge-style product that is soft, shiny and suitable for blushing, highlighting or contouring the skin.
It makes its debut “coupled up” with ten new shades of MAC Pro Longwear Lipcolour.
