UK. Electronics retailer Dixons Travel has unveiled its latest concept, with a new store in the South Terminal at Gatwick Airport set to provide a blueprint for the rest of its portfolio.
The store has been designed with a more open and flowing feel, with the traditional point of sale replaced by digital signage and a shelf provided for customers to store their luggage on while they pay for their purchases.
Covering 1,466sq ft, the new store stocks 1,100 products, with 10-inch tablet “˜look books’ throughout the store, allowing customers to gain more information on the products and associated offers in a more interactive and less cluttered format.
Other highlights of the new concept include digital visual merchandising tables with 32-inch rear projection “˜floating screens’ over themed areas, creating what the retailer calls a “theatrical atmosphere” to the overall product floor.
Meanwhile, a Knowhow bar – the first to be fitted in a Dixons Travel store – gives customers technology advice.
Dixons Travel Managing Director Jeremy Fennell said: “This is the store of the future for us. We are focused on delivering a better range and store experience for travel customers, including a focus on portable items, accessories and other flight-ready products.”
Visitors to Gatwick Airport will be sent a text message upon arrival offering them a £10 off £100 spend voucher at Dixons Travel in the South Terminal.
As previously reported, the opening of the new store is part of the redevelopment of the International Departures Lounge at Gatwick Airport’s South Terminal.
