Maldives Airports Company has partnered with Priscilla & Frederic Beaulieu, owners of French beauty house Millennium Fragrances to launch The Maldivian Kokeshi fragrance range. The launch celebrates Ibrahim Nasir International Airport’s 50th anniversary.
The launch of the floral scents follows more than a year of close collaboration between retailer and brand in developing the project, Maldives Airport Co said.
The popular Maldivian Idol judge, songwriter and singer Mariyam Unoosha (pictured centre below) took part as the official ambassador for Maldivian Kokeshi.
Maldivian Kokeshi is a limited-edition fragrance made especially for Maldivians and for tourists visiting the country. Each of the trio of bottles features a costumed designed by Maldives Duty Free to embody the three famous traditional dresses of the Maldives.
Amber is dedicated to Dhigu Hedhun, a national dress designed in the 1950s and widely worn by women as an everyday dress as well as at important national and formal functions.
Rose honours Dhivehi Libaas, the traditional dress typically worn during special occasions, festivals and during dance performances. They are adorned with gold or silver coloured threads, usually hand-stitched and are the most popular traditional Maldivian dress.
Yasmine celebrates Hedhun Buri, a traditional dress typically worn by young girls. The dress was popular daily wear in the country’s early days and is now commonly used in celebrations such as traditional dances to represent the Maldivian tradition.
Maldivian Kokeshi is exclusively available at Maldives Airports Company shops in Arrivals and Departures as well as the airports VIP/CIP Lounge. The range will also be launch onboard Maldivian Air.
NEW DUTY FREE STORES TO OPEN
In related news, Maldives Airports Company Limited Managing Director Adil Moosa announced the addition of two new duty free outlets. One, due to open this August, will offer last-minute shopping opportunities while a further 100sq m store will open in late January 2017.
Moosa highlighted the company’s focus on creating expansive duty free space and increasing the range of available categories, both core to the International Passenger Terminal development that is due for completion in coming years.
The company said: “Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has been massively involved in destination marketing and bringing in new airlines to Maldives in sustaining the growth of the tourism industry and securing the continuous progress of the nation for its people.
“MACL is very excited and looking forward to a better future with the ongoing development projects such as the new terminal, new cargo facility and the new fuel farm, along with a hydrant system and major infrastructure developments at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport.”
