Dubai Duty Free renews Omega Dubai Desert Classic patronage

UAE. Dubai Duty Free is to be a patron of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic golf tournament for another three years, further underlining its support of sports in the emirate.

The company has signed a new contract with organiser golf in DUBAi starting at this year’s 25th anniversary tournament. It follows closely Dubai Duty Free’s own 30th anniversary, which it celebrated on 20 December.

Over the past three decades, Dubai Duty Free has developed strong links to several sports, running its own ATP and WTA tennis tournaments as well as supporting a number of other events.

In golf, it is a corporate patron of the Emirates Golf Federation and sponsors the Dubai Duty Free UAE Nationals Cup, Dubai Duty Free Golf Cup and the Dubai Duty Free Seniors Cup.

Led by Executive Vice Chairman Colm McLoughlin (centre left), Dubai Duty Free has effectively used sport to promote both the company and the emirate

“We are delighted to continue our association with golf in DUBAi, the promoters and organisers of world-class events like the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, which have been a catalyst for putting the city on the world sporting map and promoting the game across the region,” said Dubai Duty Free Executive Vice Chairman Colm McLoughlin.

“By supporting so many events at the highest level and all around the globe, Dubai Duty Free is effectively promoting Dubai’s sporting, leisure and business facilities, which are second to none.

“And with more and more world-class sportspeople choosing Dubai to showcase their talent, there is set to be much more to come in the future.”

Beginning on 27 January, the 25th edition of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic is set to attract many leading players, including world number one Tiger Woods, European number one Henrik Stenson and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy.

“The Dubai Duty Free logo is a familiar sight in all big sporting events in Dubai and that’s a tribute to the company’s commitment to further raise the profile of the emirate on the international level,” said golf in DUBAi Vice Chairman and CEO Mohamed Buamaim.

“It’s a matter of pride for golf in DUBAi to see Dubai Duty Free, one of the biggest brand names in our country, continue to support our initiatives.”
