Dublin Airport unveils major T1 extension; creates fresh new look for commercial areas – 23/04/09

Springing a surprise: One of the central features of the new retail zone at Dublin Airport is “˜Ã“l – Waters of the World’

IRELAND. Dublin Airport has opened a major new extension to its existing terminal (T1), with a hugely enhanced retail and food & beverage offer split over two levels. The move is part of the €2 billion “˜Transforming Dublin Airport’ project.

The extension (dubbed “˜T1X’) serves passengers using Piers A and D, and features a number of new concepts, including “˜Ã“l – Waters of the World’, a bar carrying a wide array of mineral waters, located in the centre of the main travel retail store. The store itself features bright new areas for liquor, tobacco and fragrances & cosmetics, and faces a Guinness merchandise outlet across a wide corridor. All passengers for Piers A and D must pass the open-fronted main travel retail outlet.

The P&C category enjoys strong personalisation, with excellent space dedicated to key brands such as Chanel

Among the brands appearing for the first time at Dublin Airport are Benefit, Molton Brown, Bobbi Brown, while chemist Boots also makes its debut.

The new food & beverage area houses a Caviar House Seafood Bar (its first outlet in Ireland), a Starbucks Coffee outlet, plus a Burger King unit on the mezzanine floor above. The high-ceilinged F&B area, including the mezzanine level, benefits from impressive views over the apron and runway.

Other new units soon to open are “˜Glas bar and kitchen,’ a garden terrace restaurant, and as reported earlier this week, a number of new units from the McArthurGlen Luxury Retail fashion unit Collezioni. Austrian group Umdasch Shop-Concept played a key role in the fit-out of the new stores that opened this week.

Starbucks is one of a number of major additions to the new food & beverage offer

Opening day featured a range of promotions and special offers across a number of categories, plus music and dance from a performing troupe who entertained passengers as they passed through the new zone.
