BRAZIL. Dufry is reporting encouraging results from its major store development at São Paulo Guarulhos Airport and pushing for greater yields from the significant investments it made here in 2014.
Healthy passenger numbers have underpinned results to date: Guarulhos had over 39.5 million passengers in 2014, approximately +10% up on 2013, and traffic so far in 2015 is consistently setting monthly records.
“At Guarulhos we have recorded a better performance with our expanded and new shops at Terminals 2 and 3, with a higher spend per passenger there,” commented Gustavo Fagundes, COO Brazil & Bolivia, Dufry Region America II.
“In T3, we introduced the brand boutique concept for the first time in Brazil and we are also very excited with the results achieved with these new shops.”
Success with other concepts such as Hudson News has encouraged Dufry to roll these stores out in domestic airports across Brazil this year.
“In 2015 our focus is on driving productivity growth in the locations where we expanded in 2014 and we have so far seen a very good performance that we want to continue to improve,” Fagundes told The Moodie Report.
“In addition to that, we plan to further develop the duty paid segment in Brazil this year, expanding the Dufry Shopping and Hudson concept.
Those plans are to double the retail space of Dufry Shopping in duty paid areas by adding 23 new shops, and to add 18 Hudson News outlets in Brazil, by the end of 2015.
“The currency volatility around the Brazilian Real should persist this year, but we are well prepared to face it with our marketing tools, developing promotions and promoting instalment payments among other initiatives,” Fagundes concluded.
A full report on Brazil’s travel retail market will be published in The Moodie Report Latin America supplement this week.
