MEXICO. Swiss travel retailer Dufry’s Duty Free Boulevard at Mexico City International Airport was officially opened on 20 February 2006, representing the largest project being undertaken by the Dufry Group in the Americas.
The commercial area covers 1,592sq m and is one of the biggest duty free shopping zones worldwide. It was built in collaboration with the airport and under the supervision of Aeropuertos and Servicios Auxiliares (ASA).
In the first phase Dufry opened its main duty free shop on 21 September. The shop, located in the J entrance to the international gates, trades 365 days a year and for 24 hours a day.
Apart from the classic assortment of fragrances, skincare and cosmetics, liquor, tobacco and confectionery, a wide tequila assortment is on offer covering 485sq m. In addition, special cigar collections are carried.

The innovative shopping gallery has a walk-through store design. The open-plan retail space has an inviting architecture with five-metre high ceilings, large red aluminium sheets which were used for the mall ceilings and transparent roll-down shutters which are see-through even during the closing hours.
The new space is divided into two large inter-connected shopping aisles to facilitate synergies and ensure easy, comfortable movement between them. Customers can choose between the main boutique, a fashion zone, a watches area, and the confectionery and electronics section as well as an accessories space.
The 1,029sq m central area presents prestigious international brands such as Hugo Boss, Hermes, Bulgari, Burberry, Lacoste, Longchamp, Ermenegildo Zegna, Nike and TAG Heuer.
Dufry has also opened the first Mango boutique situated in an airport worldwide. The 137sq m boutique offers the latest fashion from this successful international company. The area is completed with an exciting selection of jewellery and watches and dedicated brand boutiques by H. Stern, Cartier, Hermes and Montblanc.
The concept shop ‘Leisure time’ meets passenger’s needs for sport articles, toys, travel equipment, music and electronics as well as confectionery over 224sq m.
The catering outlets have been planned together in a specially designed third area of 175sq m which is located between the two shopping spaces. Customers can enjoy a coffee at Starbucks, try one of the 26 types of José Cuervo’s tequilas in the tequileria or drink a cold beer at the Corona beer bar.
