Dufry has opened its first two shops at the new Algiers Houari Boumédienne Airport |
ALGERIA. Algiers’ new Houari Boumédienne International Airport opened officially last week, with Dufry the exclusive duty free retailer. The airport, serving the country’s capital, was officially inaugurated on 5 July by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika. It has capacity for 6 million passengers.
Dufry was awarded a five-year exclusive concession in February by Algerian airport authority EGSA (Etablissement de Gestion de Services Aéroportuaires d’Alger) following a tender. In a statement, Dufry thanked the airport authority for its trust and support.
The comapny’s two shops are located at Hall 1 (for Air Algérie flights) and at Hall 2 (for all other airlines) and measure 320sq m each. The stores each carry a traditional range of duty free merchandise.
EGSA called for bidders to run its duty free, advertising and food & beverage contracts via The Moodie Report last year.
