BRAZIL. Dufry has opened five Hudson convenience stores at RIOGaleão-operated Tom Jobim International Airport in Rio de Janeiro, three of them in Terminal 1 and another two in Terminal 2. Hudson offers confectionery, personal care items, souvenirs, electronics and toys as well as newspapers, magazines and books
Dufry said that the new openings underline “the excellent collaboration between the Rio de Janeiro airport authorities and Dufry to continuously optimise the commercial space and thus increase the attractiveness of RIOGaleão”.
The opening of the five stores is part of Dufry’s strategy to internationalise the Hudson concept into markets with high domestic passenger volumes and where the group is already present with its duty free shops. Outside the US and Canada, where the group operates over 450 Hudson shops, Dufry has opened close to 80 Hudson stores in more than 12 countries.
Dufry Region America II Chief Operating Officer Gustavo Fagundes said: “Dufry is bringing to Rio the Hudson concept, which is internationally successful and which has already shown great customer response at Brasília, Natal and São Paulo (Guarulhos) airports, where Hudson stores have been in operation since 2014. In our expansion plan we expect to open another 13 stores in 2015, thus creating a convenience chain able to meet passenger needs with a great variety of products. On top, we are also very proud of our new retail concept implemented in the Departures area, which allows us to additionally improve customer convenience and shopping experience.”
