MALTA. Dufry has unveiled a revamped walk-though store at Malta International Airport under its ‘Dufry Shopping’ concept.
The floor area of the departures store has increased by 41%, from 970sq m to 1,370sq m.
According to the retailer, the Dufry Shopping concept allows domestic passengers to experience a shopping environment similar to a classic duty free store.
Dufry Shopping was first introduced in Brazil in 2014 before being rolled out to seven other locations in the country. In 2017, Dufry debuted the concept in the USA, with a store opening at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport.
The Malta Dufry Shopping store encompasses traditional core duty free categories such as perfumes & cosmetics, liquor, food & confectionery and tobacco. Space has also been dedicated to the toy category.
A ‘Spirit of Malta’ section showcases local products, and has been newly integrated into the main departures store from its previous stand-alone space in the terminal.
Brands that have been added to the store following the revamp include MAC (pictured directly below), Benefit, Victoria’s Secret, Aqua Di Parma, Moroccan Oil, Jo Malone London and Rituals.
Local products available include Cassar Camilleri, Delicata, Baccus and Meridiana wines and liquors, Caffe Cordina and Savina brands in the food & confectionery category, and regional souvenirs.
The new opening follows the renovation of Dufry’s arrivals store at the airport in 2017, while the company also operates a non-Schengen boarding area shop.
The Dufry Shopping store opening forms part of a wider refurbishment programme at Malta International Airport that aims to improve the passenger journey, including the security clearance area, the general retail area and an extension of the check-in counters.
