UK. Low cost carrier easyJet flew 1.89 million passengers in July, up +75% year-on-year. Much of this increase was due to easyJet’s takeover of rival low-cost carrier Go.
The carrier’s load factor (the average percentage of seats filled on planes) in July fell by 2.3 percentage points to 85.6% year-on-year.
easyJet chief executive Ray Webster commented: “EasyJet’s performance during July continues the trend predicted in our summer trading statement. Particularly pleasing is the achievement of load factors in the mid eighties, which confirms the appeal to passengers of our combination of attractive fares and convenient airports.”
EasyJet has been battling hard for supremacy in the low-cost sector with Irish rival Ryanair.
This week, Dublin-based Ryanair claimed a victory over easyJet by announcing it had become the first European budget airline to carry more than 2.0 million passengers in a month, taking 2.04 million in July.
