Edinburgh Airport evaluates new commercial line-up for expanded terminal

UK. Edinburgh Airport is evaluating new commercial partners as it gears up to unveil its Terminal Expansion (TEX) project this summer.

The £80 million (US$114 million) investment plan, launched last year, is designed to support the airport’s forecasted growth of up to 16.5 million passengers in 2021 and beyond. New retail opportunities and food & beverage options are part of the plan.

The airport has already confirmed BrewDog as one of its main F&B partners, hailing the partnership as “two Scottish success stories working together”. As reported, BrewDog will open its first airport bar at Edinburgh Airport. Other food and beverage outlets are close to being announced, including a new Pret a Manger unit.

The TEX will also house a new lounge area – the airport has already received a lot of interest in the 1,000q m space that will overlook the runway. The operator is in discussions with several interested parties but is open to speaking to others who might be interested in the lounge space and retail opportunities.

“We’re going through one of the most exciting times in Edinburgh Airport’s history with new major routes and an extension project which is one of the biggest the airport has seen since it opened,” said Edinburgh Airport Retail and Property Director Richard Townsend.

“We welcomed more than 13 million passengers in 2017, a record for any Scottish airport, and we remain one of the fastest growing airports in the UK for international passengers – growth that is forecast to continue.”

The expansion will help the airport cater to increased growth with new facilities including commercial

Townsend added: “The level of interest in the airport from retailers, airlines and other commercial outlets has been incredible as they realise the large share of market we have in terms of domestic and international flights, the mix of business and leisure passengers and the potential of new routes like Washington and Beijing. TEX will help us cater for that increased growth.
