Edinburgh Gin 1670 makes exclusive travel retail debut at Changi Airport with Lotte Duty Free

Edinburgh Gin 1670’s unique character comes from the selection of botanicals grown at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh

SINGAPORE. Ian Macleod Distillers has launched Edinburgh Gin 1670 into travel retail exclusively with Lotte Duty Free at Singapore Changi Airport. The limited-edition, full-strength gin is available at an RRP of US$49.

The expression is inspired by one of the world’s oldest botanic gardens, the Royal Botanic Garden in the city of Edinburgh. Founded in 1670, the garden is popular for its biodiversity and a treasure trove of over 14,000 botanicals. The Garden also serves as one of the top research institutions in the world, educating the public about plant conservation.

Edinburgh Gin 1670 (70cl/ABV 43%) was produced in partnership with the Royal Botanic Garden to support their conservation and sustainability projects. The brand owner noted that it is the only gin made with fresh ingredients sourced directly from the garden.

The gin earned accolades including the Best Innovation Award at the Scottish Gin Awards 2018 and a Gold Medal at the Spirits Business Gin Masters 2021.

The expression is a result of a collaboration between Edinburgh Gin Head Distiller David Wilkinson and Chief Botanist Dr Greg Kenicer, who created an original, botanically rich gin with a balanced yet rare profile.

Edinburgh Gin 1670 is characterised by its distinct flavour, offering a combination of notes of sweet cicely, piper leaf and Tasmania lanceolata.

Wilkinson says: “Working with Greg was an incredible experience. Together, we created something a little sweet, slightly menthol and massively original. It’s an unforgettable collaboration.”

Lotte Travel Retail Singapore Managing Director Jeff Jeong Soon-Gyu added: “Edinburgh Gin has seen positive growth at Singapore Changi Airport and it’s our pleasure to introduce the distinctive Edinburgh Gin 1670 to Lotte’s customers.”

Ian Macleod Distillers Global Travel Retail Director William Ovens said: “We are thrilled to introduce into global travel retail Edinburgh Gin 1670, a historical wonder that’s thoroughly modern.

Offering complex herbaceous notes and spice, the gin brand is now available in Singapore travel retail

“Singapore Changi is a key airport for gin sales in Asia, as well as a vital transit hub for travellers to Australia and New Zealand, both of which are important domestic markets for Edinburgh Gin and the gin category as a whole.”

Edinburgh Gin secured its first listing at Lotte Duty Free at Singapore Changi Airport in 2019.

The travel retailer currently stocks Edinburgh Gin Classic, Seaside, Rhubarb & Ginger, Raspberry, Gooseberry & Elderflower and Lemon & Jasmine.

Edinburgh Gin is also available at other key airports in the region, including Hong Kong International, Kuala Lumpur International, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi and Sydney International. Edinburgh Gin launched in Asian travel retail in 2018. ✈
