CHINA. Edrington Global Travel Retail has unveiled an experiential shop-in-shop for The Macallan at cdf Sanya International Duty Free Shopping Complex in Haitang Bay, Hainan province.
The space, opened in partnership with China Duty Free Group, offers a multi-sensory experience that introduces visitors to The Macallan’s whisky-making process and its estate in Speyside, Scotland.
The concept store has been designed in collaboration with architect Jamie Fobert, known for creating landmarks such as the Fondaco dei Tedeschi in Venice and the extension of London’s National Portrait Gallery.
The shop-in-shop features a wave wall design reflecting the shape of The Macallan Distillery rooftop and a copper installation inspired by the brand’s distinctively small stills used in its whisky-making.
An Albariza stone wall behind the bar pays homage to the soil of Jerez, Spain, where the sherry that seasons The Macallan’s oak casks originates.
The store also incorporates the scent of wild herb infusions to enhance the overall experience. This sensory element underscores the brand’s commitment to sustainability and its connection with the natural world.
The shop-in-shop offers The Macallan’s comprehensive range of single malt whiskies, including the travel-exclusive Colour Collection, limited editions such as The Harmony Collection, and the soon-to-be-added TIME : SPACE Mastery.
Customers can also book guided tastings online and receive personalised whisky recommendations to find their preferred flavours.
The store also offers gift-wrapping services, complete with gift bags, cards, envelopes and ribbons.
