Edrington Global Travel Retail has introduced travel retail-exclusive packaging for Highland Park’s 14, 16 and 18 Year Old single malt whiskies. The design takes inspiration from the distillery’s creative heritage and its home in Orkney, Scotland.
The packaging features subtle strata patterns reflecting the archipelago’s distinctive environment across land, sea and sky. The new editions include 14 Year Old Land of Orkney, 16 Year Old Sea of Orkney and 18 Year Old Sky of Orkney.
Highland Park was founded 226 years ago in Orkney, a place renowned for its craft heritage, wealth of neolithic art and visionary adoption of renewable energy strategies.
The Gulf Stream contributes to a temperate climate ideal for whisky ageing, while the windy conditions limit tree growth, resulting in peat infused with floral heather. This combination of natural and cultural factors contributes to Highland Park’s distinctive character and flavour.
The packaging pays tribute to Orkney’s terroir and climate with a fresh and contemporary colour palette, with heather-flecked labels displaying the updated logo.
The Orcadian landscape’s layered colours and wind influence are captured across the outer packaging’s strata patterns, bottle label and capsule details.
The bottle’s silhouette has been redesigned to spotlight the natural colour of the whisky, derived entirely from cask. Further celebrating the whisky’s provenance, a ‘Product of Orkney’ icon has been engraved into the glass.
Edrington Brand Director, Highland Park Paul Condron said: “For Highland Park, everything comes back to Orkney – from how we craft our whisky to how it gets its distinctive taste, and the incredible community of people who do things their own way.
“We’ve been here for more than 200 years, and the beauty and creativity of our island home continues to inspire us. The unique flavour of the local heathered peat is now celebrated front and centre with the new packaging design.
“We’re excited to share this new design direction across our travel retail whiskies for Highland Park. The new look reflects the freshness and modernity of our Orkney home.”
Highland Park Master Whisky Maker Gordon Motion remarked: “It is Orkney’s heathered peat that gives us our subtly smokey flavour and it’s as unique as the place it’s made. We know that’s what our community really loves about Highland Park.
“With the packaging update we have a great opportunity to celebrate a new look, while continuing to share the distinctive, consistent whisky we’re famed for. It’s a flavour that just can’t be replicated anywhere else in the world.”
In line with its commitment to sustainability, Highland Park’s new packaging incorporates 100% recyclable cardboard cartons sourced from FSC-certified forests. ✈
