Emirates evaluates outsourcing of inflight retail programme

UAE. Emirates is evaluating the outsourcing of its inflight retail programme after running the business in-house for many years.

The fast-growing, Dubai-based carrier is issuing a Request for Information from external parties for the programme.

No more details are available at this point as the airline examines its options and the market response.

If it does go to a Request for Proposals (RFP), the business, formerly run by Vice President for Retail Services John Sime, who resigned last November, is likely to attract widespread interest from specialist inflight concessionaires and even airport retailers.

Emirates, which only launched in 1985, is one of the great aviation success stories. Today it flies the world’s biggest fleets of Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s. The airline is a subsidiary of The Emirates Group, which is wholly owned by the government of Dubai’s Investment Corporation of Dubai.

It is the world’s fourth-biggest carrier by RPK terms and the Middle East’s largest, operating over 3,500 flights each week.
