Emirates brings football fever to Hong Kong International Airport |
HONG KONG. JCDecaux Pearl & Dean (JCDP&D), the leading outdoor advertising group in Hong Kong, has been running an innovative partnership with fast-growing UAE carrier Emirates to cater to high-flying football fans during the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
The partnership involves an interactive viewing station in Hong Kong International Airport, one of several in international airports across Europe the US, Asia and the Middle East.
Emirates is an official partner of FIFA World Cup. The interactive viewing stations, installed in 16 international airports in 10 different countries, are dedicated to keeping supporters up to date with 64 matches.
Emirates Regional Manager Great China and North East Asia Edwin Lau said: “As a FIFA World Cup Official Partner and football fans ourselves, we wanted to ensure that passengers were also part of this unique occasion. We are proud to activate this interactive concept at Hong Kong International Airport and believe this is the best way to provide a service that will be welcomed by fans of all nationalities.”
Airport Authority Hong Kong Commercial Director Hans Bakker added: “Hong Kong International Airport always aims to bring our passengers excitement and updates on the world’s latest events. We must thank Emirates for choosing Hong Kong as one of the 16 airports around the world, and for their efforts to build and manage this 2006 FIFA World Cup viewing station.”
A huge plasma screen has been broadcasting live coverage of every match, while the Emirates “˜cube’ also features interactive screens showing classic matches from the past.
There is also a ticker display, an information screen showing updated schedules and scores, and an e-mail and min-cam booth where fans can photograph themselves with a range of different backgrounds relating to Emirates and the FIFA World Cup, and email pictures to friends. Fans can also participate and take pictures with the life-size cut outs of the French and Arsenal striker Thierry Henry – business is brisk as France is through to the semi-finals.
The Emirates cube measures 4m x 4m x 2.75m and is located in the landside Departure Hall of Hong Kong International Airport. “It definitely attracts the attention of football fans of all nationalities in the airport,” said Teresa Fung, General Manager of JCDecaux Pearl & Dean.
