Enduring legacy: Hardys celebrates 170 years of winemaking

Australian winery Hardys is set to mark its 170th anniversary at the upcoming TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes, 1-5 October.

Hardys is a key brand in the Accolade Wines portfolio, and expressions are set to be a strong feature at the Cannes event (Yellow Village D26).

“A true representation of Australia’s winemaking prowess” – Introducing The Eight

As reported, Hardys marked its 170th anniversary with the release of The Eight, a limited-edition 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz blend earlier this year. The Eight is limited to only 2,004 bottles, available in Sydney and Melbourne airport retail and through Hardys’ website for an RRP of US$250.

Nestled within Australia’s McLaren Vale, the Hardys legacy took root 170 years ago. Founded by Thomas Hardy – a trailblazer in South Australia’s winemaking sector – the wine producer emerged as a modest enterprise with grand ambitions. Its resolute aim to create wines “prized the world over” laid the cornerstone for its global footprint.

“Thomas Hardy’s emphasis on quality over quantity not only shaped the company’s ethos but also contributed to the ascent of Australian winemaking onto the international stage,” Hardys noted.

“This year, Hardys proudly acknowledges a significant milestone as it commemorates its 170th anniversary, bearing testament to the enduring dedication, fervour, and innovative spirit that have underpinned the brand since its establishment in 1853.”

Recently appointed Hardys Chief Winemaker Helen McCarthy said: “This anniversary truly speaks to the enduring strength of the Hardys brand. It honours the legacy created by our founder and echoes through the commitment of all who have safeguarded it over the years.”

In honour of the anniversary, Hardys has extended “an invitation to the world to join in a collective toast”. ✈
