MALAYSIA. Eraman, Malaysia Airports’ retail division, yesterday (25 November) revealed its refurbished Contact Pier Duty-Free Mall at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1.
The revamp, designed to elevate the retail experience, was a central point of discussion at the Malaysia Airports Concessionaires Conference held in Kuala Lumpur on 15 November.
The Moodie Davitt Report Founder & Chairman Martin Moodie was one of the speakers at that event and also attended the glittering Malaysia Airports Concessionaires Awards gala that evening. Look out for his extensive report in coming days.
Featuring more than 550 renowned brands across various categories, the duty-free mall places a strong emphasis on local offerings, which currently account for 6% of the range but are set to grow to 10%.
Malaysia Airports General Manager Md Fadzwin Abdul Rahim told New Straits Times this approach demonstrates the company’s commitment to travel retail innovation and elevating the passenger experience.
The mall also highlights an array of premium global brands across categories such as confectionery, fragrances, cosmetics and liquor.
The opening was attended by senior company officials including Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) Managing Director Dato’ Mohd Izani Ghani and MAHB Senior General Manager of Commercial Services Hani Ezra Hussin.
A standout feature of the 2,750sq m shopping space is the southeast Asia debut of Charlotte Tilbury, described as a milestone in the retailer’s mission to bring prestigious global brands closer to travellers.
The mall is equipped with self-checkout kiosks, which Eraman says are the first of their kind in Malaysian travel retail.
In addition, Md Fadzwin revealed that Eraman is set to roll out RFID technology across its stores, aiming to expedite transactions and offer a more convenient shopping experience.
The redesigned mall bolsters the retailer’s dedication to enhancing KLIA’s status as a premier global shopping destination.
In addition, the group is upgrading the international departure area at KLIA Terminal 2, with completion scheduled for 2025.
