Fauchon Paris unveils macaroons counter at HKIA

HONG KONG. Fauchon Paris has unveiled a macaroons counter at its boutique in Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) Terminal 1 West Hall.

Launched on 14 July to celebrate Bastille Day in France, the counter offers fresh macaroons available individually as well as boxed gifts.

The 53sq m Fauchon store, which opened in 2009, is the brand’s airport shop outside France. Operated by LS Travel Retail ASPAC, it offers a wide range of Fauchon’s most popular delicacies, including goose and duck foies gras, fresh and farmed caviars, smoked salmon, biscuits, condiments, coffees, teas and preserves.

The macaroons are available in eight traditional flavours: chocolate, vanilla, praline hazelnut, pistachio, raspberry, lemon, caramel and coffee. Customers can then choose to wrap their selection in a specially designed gift box and travel with the new Fauchon macaroons shopping bag.

As part of its opening promotion, customers will receive two macaroons free with every purchase over HK$300 (US$38.50).

Freshly made in France and shipped frozen to Hong Kong, the macaroons are then defrosted and kept refrigerated at 4°C. After defrosting, they have a self life of 5-9 days, making it “a big challenge” to sales, Fauchon International Travel Retail Manager Faozia Math-Ly-Roun explained to The Moodie Report.

“This is the first time we are exporting our French macaroons in travel retail abroad, and we hope to expand this concept and make it easy – and above all, profitable – for our next duty free operator partners to implement,” said Math-Ly-Roun.

“We are really happy with initial sales and are quite confident for the future development of such an exclusive and unique offer. We are giving more reasons for travellers to stop by at HKIA.”

New launches for 2011

For 2011, Fauchon has introduced a new tea gift set designed to help consumers make the perfect cup of tea. Comprising 50 bags of flavoured teas, the boxed set includes three hourglass timers measuring three, four and five minutes. Below each flavour of tea is the recommended infusion time.

Also new is the brand’s Rose & Apple tea, which targets Asian markets.

Following on last year’s successful launch of its panda chocolates tin – which doubles up as a coin deposit box – Fauchon will be unveiling a new teddy bear biscuit tin at the TFWA World Exhibition in September.

Also launching in Cannes is a heart-shaped biscuit tin. A popular collectable according to Math-Ly-Roun, the heart-shaped tin collection currently includes three types of chocolates – dark, milk and caramel.

In line with its focus on gifting, Fauchon has introduced a 90g Paris-themed tin containing nine chocolates as a duty free exclusive. The Eiffel Tower graphic design alludes to Fauchon’s Parisian roots. The collection will see new additions for Cannes containing biscuits.

To capitalise on consumers’ awareness of the brand, Fauchon has developed several gwps including the new macaroons shopping bag, a handbag hanger which doubles up as a compact mirror, and a coffret bag that can be used to store Fauchon products for onboard snacking.

Fauchon will present its new items at stand number Riviera Village RD7 the TFWA World Exhibition in September.
