The Starbucks barista will be a feature of Oslo Airport next year when Starbucks opens in Norway for the first time |
NORWAY. Starbucks Coffee Company and leading F&B operator SSP are to expand Starbucks’ presence into Norway by opening the first store at Oslo Airport in early 2012.
“We are very excited to bring the unique Starbucks experience to customers in Norway,” said Starbucks Europe, Middle East and Africa President Rich Nelsen. “Norway has one of the highest per capita consumption rates of coffee in the world, which presents a great opportunity for Starbucks. We look forward to meeting our new customers and becoming part of the local community.”
This agreement supports Starbucks’ desire to increase its international store growth with licensed partners who have proven experience and demonstrated success, SSP said.
Starbucks and SSP entered into a strategic partnership in June 2008 and have since opened 29 stores in the UK, Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland and Sweden. It further supports Starbucks’ strategy of opening stores in prime international travel channels and diversifying its distribution channel.
“One of SSP’s strengths is our broad and diverse portfolio of leading international, national and local brands, coupled with our ability to bring leading high-street and local concepts to the travel environment,” said SSP Norway Managing Director Morten Solberg Nilsen. “We’re delighted to be building on our successful operation of Starbucks coffee houses across Europe, and playing a role in establishing the brand in Norway. We’re confident that Starbucks will be the ideal complement to the suite of restaurants we will be operating at Oslo Airport.”
Oslo Airport serves more than 20 million passengers a year. There is further expansion in progress at Oslo Airport to construct Terminal 2. The work will start in 2011 and will be completed in 2017. The airport will then have a capacity of 28 million passengers annually.
