‘Fit for a king’ – Walker’s Shortbread launches two limited-edition Coronation Tins

Walker’s Shortbread has unveiled two limited-edition royal tins commemorating the forthcoming coronation of King Charles III. They are The Westminster Coronation and The Royal Deeside Coronation editions.

To support the launch, Walker’s will be sampling in travel retail with Dufry in May, on P&O Ferries vessel Spirit of France, as well as showcasing its all-butter Union Jack Shortbreads at various airports across the UK.

Featuring royal portraits of His Majesty from official events in London and Scotland, the collectors’ tins are available at selected Dufry/World Duty Free stores, through  Lagardère Travel Retail at Aelia Duty Free, Discover and Irish Ferries stores, and also with DFDS Ferries, Caviar House and WHSmith.Walker’s Shortbread Managing Director Nicky Walker commented: “For almost 50 years we have proudly celebrated the British Royal Family and their significant milestones with commemorative tins.

“This feels particularly poignant as the first coronation in many people’s lifetimes. We feel honoured to mark this momentous occasion and pay tribute to His Majesty King Charles III.”

Featuring a colour scheme of dark blue with golden accents and a headline tribute of ‘The Coronation of King Charles III’, the tins feature the official Royal Warrant for the supply of shortbread to the Royal Household, which the brand was awarded in 2017.

Third generation of the Scottish family business, Walker’s Shortbread Director Sir Jim Walker CBE was recently invested as a Knight Bachelor in recognition of his services to the food industry, following the appointment in the Central Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood on the Birthday 2022 Honours list.

He said, “I was extremely honoured and touched to have been among the first honours presented by His Majesty King Charles III, whom I first had the honour of meeting many years ago.

King Charles III: The Westminster Coronation Limited Edition (300g) and King Charles III: The Royal Deeside Coronation Limited Edition (150g) have extended Walker’s Shortbread Royal Tin Collection, following the release of its commemorative collection paying homage to the late Queen Elizabeth II

“Combined with our long-shared association with the Royal Family and Scotland, it is very special to be able to commemorate the coronation and His Majesty with these celebratory tins.”

Containing 24 all-butter Union Jack Shortbreads, King Charles III: The Westminster Coronation Limited Edition tin (300g) depicts King Charles III dressed in his naval uniform at The Mall, during the 150th anniversary celebration of the Cadet Force, captured by photographer Anwar Hussein.

The corners of the tin are adorned with the national flower of each country in the United Kingdom: Scottish thistle, English rose, Welsh daffodil and Northern Irish shamrock.

The smaller tin (150g), King Charles III: The Royal Deeside Coronation Limited Edition, has a photograph of His Majesty relaxing at the Highland Games near Balmoral Castle. He is wearing a traditional tartan kilt with the striped tie of the Gordon Highlanders regiment of the British Army, from before the regiment merged with the Queen’s Own Highlanders. It contains a selection of Walker’s shortbreads: Triangles, Fingers, Thistles, Rounds and Hearts. ✈
