SRI LANKA. Flemingo Duty Free is aiming to tap into the interest surrounding the ICC Cricket World Cup T20 event in Sri Lanka with a big promotional drive at its Colombo Airport stores. The tournament runs in September and October.
To celebrate the sporting event, Flemingo, in association with Visa, is giving away a Suzuki Ritz VXi car in a prize draw. This is open to customers who spend US$150 or more using their Visa card at Flemingo shops. There will also be daily prizes of official T20 t-shirts, caps and match tickets.

Flemingo Retail Business Manager Alec Denby said: “It is an exciting time for Sri Lanka and for cricket fans around the world. We have gone all out and look forward to entertaining the arriving fans and Bandaranaike International Airport passengers.”
This is the latest in a series of promotions that have been running in the Flemingo store at Colombo Airport, the latest being a major campaign with Diageo. Winners in the lucky draws walked away with La-z-Boy recliners, Sony 40-inch Bravia TVs, home theatre systems and Sony PlayStation 3s while vouchers ranging from US$2 to US$100 were given away daily.
Denby said: “Our drive and focus is on creating a new and exciting retail shopping experience. Having big promotions helps us to create a shopping environment that captures the interest of passengers.”

Flemingo said its performance continues to improve at the location, where it operates in competition with Autogrill-owned Orient Lanka. Departures now accounts for 55% of sales, with 45% in Arrivals.
Liquor leads sales among the core categories, contributing around 57% to the overall mix.
“Single malts and high-end Cognacs are also a major focus for Flemingo and continued effort is being put into creating an exclusive, interactive shopping experience for each and every customer. We are giving targeted promotions to help passengers avail of their duty free allowance on Arrival,” noted Denby.
Confectionery is a key contributor at close to 30% of the Arrivals share. Promotions are a key factor with multi purchases common for returning Sri Lankans.
In beauty, Flemingo said that high-visibility space has been given to brands such as Burberry, Givenchy and Calvin Klein to highlight new products and promote monthly perfume giveaways, with an increase of up to +60% in sales on promoted items, the retailer claimed.
