EUROPE. The Balearic Islands and Eastern Mediterranean destinations are leading shifting travel trends across Europe for the Easter holiday period, marked by a sharp increase in demand according to the latest data from travel analytics firm ForwardKeys.
The figures reveal intra-European travel searches for the Easter period (7-21 April) surged +36% compared to 2024 (18 March-1 April), as travellers take advantage of a later spring holiday and warmer weather across southern Europe.
ForwardKeys noted flight searches to classic ‘sun & beach’ destinations have soared +59% year-on-year, reflecting a desire among travellers to take advantage of the Mediterranean climate.
Palma de Mallorca sees the most notable increase in travel intent for the period with +79% year-on-year rise in searches. Further east, Greek and Turkish hotspots, including Heraklion, Thessaloniki, Istanbul and Antalya, also see significant growth, gaining between 0.4 and 0.5 percentage points in share, underlining the strength of the Eastern Mediterranean this Easter.
City destinations attract a lower share of Easter tourism as major European capitals, including Amsterdam (-0.9pp), Geneva (-0.6pp), London (-0.6pp), Paris (-0.5pp) and Berlin (-0.4pp) are all seeing a slight dip in their relative share of Easter travellers. ✈
