Frankfurt Airport passenger traffic grows sharply in January but lags pre-pandemic figures

Like many German airports, Frankfurt remains well behind pre-pandemic levels in terms of passenger traffic, with high aviation taxes and levies among the factors holding back growth

GERMANY. Frankfurt Airport served 4.1 million passengers in January, an increase of +11.1% year-on-year but still -12.6% below January 2019 levels, parent company Fraport has reported.

The German Airports Association (ADV) has blamed high aviation fees and a lack of competitiveness in the aviation market for the sluggish recovery in passenger traffic in Germany compared to the rest of Europe.
