Frankfurt Airport posts February traffic growth

GERMANY. Frankfurt Airport passenger traffic climbed by +0.7% year-on-year to 3.6 million passengers in February, parent group Fraport has said. A union-led strike during the month cost the airport around 1,700 flights and 170,000 passengers.

In the first two months of 2012, Frankfurt posted encouraging traffic growth of +3.2%, to 7.7 million.

As a group, Fraport’s majority-owned airports (including Frankfurt) handled around 5.3 million passengers in February, up by +2.5% on last year. Antalya Airport traffic dipped by -3.2% to 608,327, while Lima Airport in Peru had a +14.8% surge to 1.03 million. On Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast, Burgas Airport posted a +77% leap to 18,698, due to the closure of neighbouring airport Varna for refurbishment. Burgas is temporarily taking over Varna’s traffic while work continues.
