Frankfurt Airport Retail store named ‘Habanos Specialist’

GERMANY. The Frankfurt Airport duty free store run by Gebr Heinemann and Fraport joint venture Frankfurt Airport Retail has been named as a ‘Habanos Specialist’.

The seal is awarded to cigar stores (around 700 worldwide) that present an especially wide range of Cuban cigars in a premium environment.

The Frankfurt Airport Retail store becomes the first airport store in Germany to achieve this status.

“We’re proud to meet the high standards of Habanos as a selected partner in its international network of specialists,” said Frankfurt Airport Retail (joint) Managing Director Dirk Mörchen.

“The seal is a clear symbol of excellence for our customers and reflects the passion, expertise and dedication with which we sell high-quality tobacco products in our shop.”

In a statement, Gebr Heinemann noted that shops have to meet various requirements to attain the seal. “It has to be an exquisite shop with a suitable humidor, the staff have to be specially trained [and] more than 50% of the premium cigars have to be Habanos. The remainder of the range has to fit in with the Habanos and include the top sellers in the relevant country.”

Habanos offers certified shops benefits such as special training courses, a presence on the Habanos website and a purchase option for new products and special launches.

The 16sq m walk-in humidor with the ‘Habanos Specialist’ seal is located in Terminal 2, Non-Schengen. The terminal section welcomed around 3.5 million departing passengers in 2018.

Frankfurt Airport Retail (joint) Managing Director Georg Fuhrmann said: “Especially when poor harvests lead to a shortage of high-quality products, the seal allows us to keep offering our customers the best Habanos.”

Gebr Heinemann said travellers from Southeast Asia account for the majority of Cuban cigar sales at the Terminal 2 store.
