Frankfurt Airport serves up new dining options – 17/07/09

GERMANY. Frankfurt Airport has opened four new food & beverage outlets, two of which are making an appearance for the first time: Meyer Feinkost and Italissimo Convenience.

Located in the root area of the Schengen A Hall area (gates 1-5), Meyer Feinkost is a new highlight offered by top Frankfurt gastronome and Rhein-Main’s leading catering company Meyer.

“We were in contact for a period of time and are now glad to offer Meyer Feinkost, with its extraordinary gastronomical expertise and services, a new platform at our airport renowned worldwide,” said Mark Hallstein, Fraport’s food & beverage manager in the retail division.

“Our passengers can virtually see and taste culinary highlights and we also profit from this in the end. In other words, this is a win-win situation and we look forward to a successful partnership.”

Decked in dark green lacquer with white and beige colours, the 70sq m outlet features high-end seating and standing table arrangements.

Meyer produces its own delicatessen on a daily basis. At the entrance there are large counters with snacks, fresh juices and delicatessen catering to passengers in a hurry. These are packed in bags with a special Meyer design. Also available are marmalades and other European specialties, which can be purchased as a small present for loved ones.

Frankfurt Airport aims for increased food & beverage revenues and a wider range of dining options for passengers with four new outlets: (Clockwise from top left) Meyer Feinkost, Italissimo Convenience, Crewtown, and Nykke & Kokki

Italissimo Convenience is a quick premium concept operated by Gebr Heinemann and Casual Food GmbH.

Opening in the middle of the Schengen A Hall area, the outlet offers Mediterranean food souvenirs such as olive oil, pesto, pasta and dolci, as well as Italian snacks such as fresh ciabatta, Parma sausage, salads, coffee specialities and pastry.

“Both Heinemann and Casual Food have a lot of experience with food at the airport and, consequently, supplement each other. Casual Food supplies fresh products on a daily basis and Heinmann is responsible for the international products. Consequently, this is one further convenience for passengers who can get food and interesting souvenirs at the same time,” said Hans Georg Mühlberg, manager of the convenience sector at Fraport’s retail division.

Nykke & Kokki, known for its homemade products, has had a successful start in Terminal 1, Hall A near gates A 22/23. Hailing from Finland, Nykke & Kokki means “˜laugh & cook’.

In addition to focaccias, wraps, salads, and desserts ranging from rice pudding to Bircher muesli, passengers can also find bio-grade coffee specialities. The 50sq m shop features dine-in seating and a takeaway counter.

The young and fresh approach is underlined by fashionable wallpaper and colours.

Lastly, Crewtown offers drinks, snacks, sausages and sweets. Operated by Casual Food GmbH, it opened in the check-in area of Hall A in Terminal 1 with a concept focused specifically on employees. It is open seven days a week from 6am to 10pm.
