CHINA/INTERNATIONAL. Frey Wille, the Austrian decorative art jewellery specialist, last month opened its first stand-alone store in the Chinese domestic market, selling its full range of products.
The development, at Beijing’s New Lufthansa Center, follows two other recent openings in mainland China: a counter began trading in downtown duty free at Beijing in September, and a 35sq m stand-alone store opened in August at Beijing International Airport.
“We have a two-pronged approach to opening downtown and duty free stores,” said Corporate Communications Manager Susan Brunner. “We take the first step wherever possible.”
Frey Wille is looking at other airport duty free locations in China, and wants to open a stand-alone downtown boutique in Hong Kong, said Brunner. The company already has a duty free presence in Asia with South Korean operator KNTO at Seoul Incheon and Busan Gimhae airports.
“The contemporary art collection is doing well in South Korea – particularly the geometric designs in white gold,” said Frey Wille (HK) Area Manager Asia Pacific Gabriele Waniek.
In eastern Europe, Frey Wille opened at 22sq m stand-alone airport store in Budapest last month. An official opening event was scheduled for 4 November.
Brunner said the company’s vibrant designs were also selling extremely well at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport, and at its boutique in downtown Moscow which began trading in June.
In other news, Frey Wille displayed its latest multi-coloured enamel art collection – Hommage à Hundertwasser – at the TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes. The two design sets, called Spiral of Life and Street-rivers, are based on the work of 20th century Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Pieces include bracelets, pendants and a dress watch.
