SINGAPORE. A Star Wars experience in which fans can take the controls of a life-size X-wing is providing the perfect lift-off for Changi Airport’s year-end festive celebrations.

The “intergalactic adventure” takes place in the Departure Hall of Terminal 3, with travellers able to don Star Wars costumes and sit in the cockpit of the fighter. Photo memorabilia will be made available for visitors to bring home for free.

A second craft from the film franchise, a TIE fighter guarded by five Stormtroopers, will be located in the Departure Hall of Terminal 2.

Additionally, a set of eight limited-edition Star Wars plush toys will be made exclusively available to purchase at Changi Airport as part of the experience, which runs from 13 November to 5 January 2016.

Feel the force: Fans will be able to meet a number of Star Wars characters

In T3, there will also be special appearances by Star Wars characters as well as opportunities to win exclusive Star Wars merchandise. A “˜language centre’ featuring popular character C-3PO is located behind an LED backdrop, in which the droid will teach airport visitors popular Star Wars phrases in 10 commonly-spoken languages. A showcase of Star Wars models such as the Millennium Falcon and Star Destroyer will also be displayed.

In T2, another attraction will be a Star Wars-themed gate holdroom and aerobridge at gate E26, where more life-sized figurines of Stormtroopers and the character R2-D2 are stationed to welcome passengers.

The year-end celebrations at Changi Airport will also feature other events and activities, such as a Norway-themed bouncy playground in T3 based on one of the filming locations of Star Wars, and an obstacle course featuring new character Sphero. Interactive stage and roving performances will also continue as part of the festive celebrations.
