Gatwick Airport cuts travellers’ burden with further COVID test subsidies

UK. Gatwick Airport has vowed to motivate Britains to return to travel by introducing significantly cheaper lateral flow and PCR tests through subsidising the airport’s on-site COVID-19 screening centre from yesterday, 16 September.

Gatwick currently has two testing centres operated by ExpressTest, a drive-in option and a walk-in centre. Since the drive-in centre opened last November, Gatwick had already subsidised ‘fit-to-fly’ on-site PCR tests, with the airport’s passengers and staff able to take a test for just £59 (US$81).

However, recognising that the overall costs of PCR tests continued to discourage families from travelling, and the detrimental effect this is having on the aviation industry, Gatwick decided on further rate subsidies.

Gatwick Airport Chief Executive Officer Stewart Wingate said that the airport recognises the prohibitive impact of PCR tests on international travel booking.

He added, “We are therefore pleased to be able to offer passengers a more cost-effective solution, conveniently located at the airport, to help people get away on a much-needed holiday, to visit loved ones abroad or travel for business.”

The following prices will be available exclusively for Gatwick passengers, via a designated discount code from Thursday 16 September 2021.
