Gebr Heinemann develops new careers website

GERMANY. Gebr Heinemann has developed a new careers website aimed at recruiting shop floor staff to its network of operations: www.heinemann-dutyfree.com/karriere. Among the key roles it is seeking to fill currently are 120 retail jobs at the new Berlin Brandenburg Willy Brandt International Airport, which opens in 2012.

“We are seeking employees with experience as well as trainees for our teams,” said Gebr Heinemann Co-Owner Gunnar Heinemann. “We pay close attention to ensure staff fit with our company and our values. Our employees are the ambassadors for our business as they are in contact with our customers.”

The retailer said that knowledge of different languages was important for staff. Besides German and English, ideally staff could advise customers in Russian, Chinese, Japanese or French.

Gunnar Heinemann said: “Our experience shows that customers are delighted when they are addressed in their own language. Staff that have grown up speaking two languages, and who can bring an understanding of different cultures, are highly suitable. They fit perfectly into the airport workplace.”

Heinemann Duty Free will operate one main 1,700sq m main store at the new Berlin airport, alongside a 200sq m crew shop, boutiques on behalf of Hermès, Burberry, Montblanc and Hugo Boss, and a leathergoods store.

Of the forthcoming project, Berlin Airports Director Non-Aviation Norbert Minhorst said: “The new airport is the most important future project for the capital city region, and will create around 40,000 jobs. Just in the shopping, food & beverage and service sectors, staff numbers will rise from 800 today at Berlin Tegel and Schoenefeld airports to 1,500 [at the new facility].”

The opening of the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport will create a total of 1,500 jobs in the commercial areas
