DENMARK. Copenhagen Airport has extended Gebr. Heinemann’s retail contract by a further ten years, taking the partnership to at least 2033. Under the agreement, the main duty free departures store will be extended to 4,000sq m of space.
The contract was signed yesterday at Gebr. Heinemann offices in Hamburg. The family-owned travel retailer and distributor has been present at Copenhagen Airport since 2007.

Gebr. Heinemann Chief Sales Officer Florian Seidel commented: “We have an exceptionally stable and trusting relationship with Copenhagen Airport. This is the basis for our constant economic development at this location. We are proud of our strong Nordic footprint and are delighted to extend the contract with the airport. It is an important location for us, which we will continue to expand and improve, as we have done in the past.”
Katrin Bamler, Managing Director at Gebr. Heinemann Retail ApS, which runs the business, added: “This renewed contract not only reaffirms our commitment to grow together but also brings a greater sense of security for investments. As part of this partnership extension, we will elevate the shopping experience for our customers through an expanded sales area offering an enhanced shopping experience, thus making sure that Copenhagen Airport remains a top location for travel retail.”

Copenhagen Airport Chief Commercial Officer Peter Krogsgaard said: “It has been a priority for Copenhagen Airport to continue the close and trusting cooperation we have had with Gebr. Heinemann since 2007. With the major expansion of the terminal area between Gates B and C we have the opportunity to continue innovating and growing together.”
Gebr. Heinemann operates six shops at Copenhagen Airport. As noted, the largest will increase in size to 4,000sq m from around 2,600sq m currently.
This will create more space especially for regional brands and products across all categories, which the retailer said are “highly requested” by travellers. In addition, shopper convenience will be further improved with digital and other elements.
Other stores in the network are in Pier A (409sq m), Pier B (203sq m), Pier C (353sq m), a T3 store (159sq m) and arrivals (133sq m).
Gebr. Heinemann emphasised the importance of creating a strong connection to the region, with local products a key feature of the offer and design that has a “distinctive Scandinavian look and feel”.
It noted that ambitious sustainability targets are also part of the strategy, with actions in this area to be defined in cooperation with the airport. ✈
