Gebr Heinemann wins accolade for new Erlensee logistics centre

GERMANY. Gebr Heinemann has been awarded the 2014 Gold SAP Quality Award (Germany/Austria/Switzerland region) for its SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) system at the retailer’s new logistics centre in Erlensee, near Frankfurt.

Opened in May 2014, with implementation partner IGZ, the new logistics centre is a full-service warehouse which has 45,000 items always in stock for use by Heinemann Duty Free Shops, as well as a large portion of Heinemann’s more than 1,000 distribution customers.

Around 35% of Gebr Heinemann’s total logistics will be conducted out of the centre. The retailer runs another full-service warehouse in Hamburg.

The logistics centre is said to be the first of this size to take on the challenge of using a complex, highly dynamic and automatic material flow system using SAP EWM/MFS (Material Flow System).

Gebr Heinemann Head of IT Programme Management Stefan Oltmanns said: “The complexity of a warehouse of such massive proportions with this high degree of automation garners considerable attention on the market. Our goal was for the SAP EWM system to handle as much as possible of our logistical requirements and, by working together with our ERP and custom duties systems, to provide optimum support for the storage and inventory control processes. We can be proud that SAP recognised the achievements of our project as well as the quality of its implementation and execution by awarding Gebr Heinemann with this honour.”

Since 2008, annually SAP has been granting Quality Awards to companies which demonstrate outstanding performance with their SAP projects and programmes while observing SAP’s ten quality standards.
