GIFTS: The Discovery Store brings its unique retail buzz to Cannes

UK. The successful UK retailer with over 50 outlets, The Discovery Store, was at TFWA World for the first time to expand its booming travel retail business.

The Discovery Store is well-known for its fun and unique gifts and gadgets such as battery-operated moving dogs, remote control cars, flying Buzz Lightyears and Peter Pans and other novelty gifts.

The Discovery Store also has a wholesale division that sells Discovery product (branded and bespoke) into retailers across Europe and since May this year in travel retail. The company says it is aiming to become the largest year-round, lifestyle-led gift and gadget retailer in the UK, through constant product and offer development.

The Discovery Store channel manager-travel retail Jonathan Corbett joined the company in May from Ocean Trading (The Nuance Group) and pioneered the company’s first travel retail presence which was a 6m space in Dublin airport opened in August. This quickly expanded to include new locations at Cork and Shannon airport with Aer Rianta and other business with The Nuance Group at London Gatwick airport and onboard 15 cruiseships with Harding Bros.

“We received an amazing amount of feedback in Cannes,” said Corbett. “At the show we made new prospects in Scandinavia, Greece and other markets.

“Things have moved fast since the company moved into travel retail in May. It was immediately proved in the Dublin store that the noise and moving toys in our stores is effective in creating theatre and in creating a draw into the store.

“Few people know what they are looking for in The Discovery Store, but what they are guaranteed is a fun and unique gift that will be enthusiastically received.”
